About Natural Marble Natural marbles were formed when fairly pure limestone or dolomite rock got metamorphosed, while limestone and dolomite are wide spread sedimentary rocks that were originated in the ocean environment. When a major tectonic event occurred as a result of the magma movement in an area where limestone or dolomite rocks were deeply buried, the nearby heat, ranging from 900 to 1500 degrees, was sufficient to change the physical makeup of the carbonate rock. Consequently, heat and pressure cause the grains of calcite in limestone or dolomite in dolomite rock to combine into larger crystals. The transformed rock is called natural Marble. Crystal sizes of natural marbles vary, but in general only marbles with small or fine crystals can be used for buildings and carving applications. Listed below are imported marble colors in polished marble finish. Several marble finish options are available. See "marble finish" section for detail.

Natural marble colors range from pure black marble to pure white marble and warmer colors in between like cream marble beige marble depending on mineral impurities. Like other metamorphic rocks, natural marbles contain no fossils, and any layering that appears in it probably does not correspond to the original bedding of the precursor limestones. Like limestone, marbles tend to dissolve in acidic fluids but marble is very durable in dry climates, that is why marble has clear distribution patterns around the globe. Many ancient marble mountains survived in the Mediterranean countries. Genuine natural marble for construction and sculpturing has been the epitome of class for many centuries for its beauty and workability. Behind any piece of natural marble there was a long story and hard times, a noble marbles started out as common limestone or dolomite. Depending on the original characteristics of the limestone, the pressure, and the heat, marble may end up to be the sculpture's dream or just another rock. There are several marble finish options available. See marble finish section for detail.
